President’s Message – 24 September 2013
Greetings All! 2013 has been a great year for the Fort Detrick SAME Post. We continue to grow our ranks and involvement with the Frederick/Ft. Detrick communities. Thanks to the continued hard work of Laurie Giner and our staff of dedicated volunteers, our community outreach events have been innovative, diverse, and well-attended. This summer's events included us coming together and enjoying a Frederick Keyes Game and working a volunteer booth at an Alive @ 5 Event with the Frederick Downtown Partnership and Women in Defense. We've increased our local presence and enjoyed the new networking and professional development opportunities.
With Fall in the air, we are reminded about the time of year that is about to come! Harvest and Holidays are just around the corner and the coming year will expand on our great monthly programs as we look forward to seeing everyone in the great outdoors. October 18 is our Annual Scholarship Golf Outing. Veterans of this event are still talking about the fun they had last year. We'll also be hosting a local artist whose framed nature photography will be available for donations. I know this year's fundraising efforts will be met with success and once again, we will be looking to support future engineer and architect scholars! If you have not already signed up to golf, please do so!
Soon it will be December with our Holiday Party & Awards Dinner, our speaker this year is the Architect of the Capitol, Stephen Ayers. This is truly a "must attend" opportunity! We will enjoy a new venue, the Dutch's Daughter restaurant, in Frederick. The Holiday Party is one of our best attended events, Save the Date of December 17, 2013, 5-9pm. I look forward to seeing you all there. Looking ahead to 2014, the post will continue to provide technical professional development opportunities to allow members to network, broaden their knowledge, and earn PDHs and CEUs.
In closing, let us not forget we are still a nation at war and 2014 will be a difficult transition year in Afghanistan.
