President’s Message – 01 November
2012
Greetings all! I am excited to
report that our SAME Fort Detrick Scholarship Golf
Tournament held on 12 October 2012 was a resounding
success. Thanks to the hard work of Laurie Giner,
the Scholarship Golf Tournament Committee,
volunteers, and generous sponsors we raised over
$10,000 for our scholarship fund. The golf event
is our largest annual fundraising event which
enables the Fort Detrick Post to offer cash
scholarships to well deserving engineering students
in our local area. The success of this event will
allow us to expand our scholarships program to new
levels! We thank all our wonderful sponsors for
their continued contributions which make this and
all our programs so successful.
On a more somber note, our thoughts
and prayers go out to all the individuals and
family’s impacted by the devastation of Hurricane
Sandy across the northeast. Our profession and the
very mission SAME supports will be essential to the
recovery and rebuilding process. It is our
profession(s) which will plan and execute the
environmental recovery, rebuild infrastructure, and
assess ways to lessen the impact of future natural
disasters. Our work is important. It is even more
important to “build the bench”… promote the
development of those who will respond to the call
when the next “once-in-a-lifetime” storm strikes.
Our scholarship program is a way we can make a
difference and build the bench. Our work is
important!
We are taking a break from our busy
program’s schedule of events this month, and do not
have an event scheduled for the month of November.
Just around the corner is our Holiday
Party on December 4th 2012 at the Ceresville
Mansion. The Holiday Party is one of our best
attended events, so please see the details at our
website (www.samefortdetrick.org) and register
before space runs out. I look forward to seeing you
all there.
